This could be such a great book, if the author had spent only another two or three weeks of hard work on it. The story idea is brilliant and complex. The discipline that's needed to shape such an idea into a book that's easy to read - easy in a sense that you don't want to put it down - that discipline, called hard labor, is not quite there. Still, if you read this book and ignore everything that's not quite okay, you will be well entertained.
An unbelievable futuristic plot with a lot of SciFi thrown in. Not flawless,but somehow clicks as a take off on reality Television.
Allen H. Charles seems to have all bases covered in a convincing manner. Who cares what is scientifically accurate or not? If it is fiction and sounds plausible, then defences down and enjoy.
The World Game starts with great promise, an interesting plot line, characters you can begin to feel for, none that you automatically love, but you like nonetheless. Where it has so much promise to begin with, there are a few structure issues that really distract from the reading. A lot of typos, hard-to-follow transitions, seemingly perfect characters. Although facing a horrendously tragic event, all of the main characters keep their cool. It's very unrealistic and keeps the reader from being able to fully immerse him/herself into the story. Minus the scenes by the judges and Nickel, a lot of the plot twists were easy to predict and the ending left for much to be desired. Throughout it there seemed an immaturity to the writing.
When I finished reading the book I felt a dissatisfaction, but I will be on the lookout for Allen Charles' next book. He has great promise for a new author.
You must read this book. It takes you to the most interesting places in your imagination and then throws you a curve to show you there is another unexpected possibility. I will not give away any of the book as some. You must read for yourself.
Loved this story from beginning to end, couldn't put it down till finished.
